Assisted Living Facilities

Addressing the need to bridge the gap between fully independent living and nursing homes are Assisted Living Facilities, or ALFs. Trained aides at these facilities provide their residents with help in what are known as ADL, or Activities of Daily Living, which include eating, bathing, dressing, medication, housekeeping and laundry and often trips for shopping. The residents of these facilities are not capable of living entirely on their own, but do not require the full services of a nursing home. Medical care is often a standard service, however, it is not as intensive as that typically provided by a nursing home.
