Is Nursing Calling You?

Extraordinary things are happening in healthcare today and in the nursing profession.

Advances in medical science, increasing life-spans, plus the aging of the baby-boomer population create a great need for skilled nurses and excellent career opportunities for those willing to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to join and grow in this field.

FCC's School of Nursing was established to provide an education in today's dynamic and expanding healthcare field.  Throughout its 28-year history, Florida Career College has come to be known as "The College That Cares." We invite you to spend time with us and explore the possibilities an FCC Nursing education can provide.

Upon graduation from the program, students will be qualified to take the National Council LIcensure Examination (NCLEX) to become a Registered Nurse (RN).

The School of Nursing is a school within Florida Career College and its philosophy is consistent with that of the College in that we firmly believe that good education and training is the primary factor in achieving personal success.

The core values of the School of Nursing are represented by the acronym CARES:

A NurseC : Community, Cultural Competency, Communication, and Critical Thinking Skills

A : Adherence to Professional Interdisciplinary Values

R : Research and Evidence-Based Practices

E : Ethical Integrity and Patient-Centered Care

S : Science and Technology

The faculty believes that nursing education is based on a humanistic-altruistic approach and frames its philosophy and programs within the theoretical structure of Jean Watson's caring theory. The nursing faculty bases the program on Watson's beliefs concerning the human being, health, environment/society and nursing.

Learning is a gradual, life-long process that includes evaluating beliefs, understanding concepts and changing behaviors.  Learning is most effective when the student is recognized as an individual with particular needs in a school that provides an atmosphere for student participation and evaluation throughout the learning process. Ultimately, learning is the responsibility of the student who must be an active participant and accept responsibility for his/her own growth.

Nursing responds to the needs of society which include: the prevention of illness; the promotion, maintenance and restoration of health throughout the lifespan; the alleviation of suffering; and support of the individual and family experiencing the grieving/dying process.

Florida Career College’s Nursing Program is approved by the Florida State Board of Nurses, accredited by the Commission of Independent Education, the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools and seeking accreditation from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
