The Financial Aid Office at Florida Career College is dedicated to helping students find ways to finance their education. This office is staffed by the Director of Financial Aid and Financial Aid Advisors and Planners. The financial aid staff is available to all enrolled students. They may be reached by calling the campus to schedule an appointment or they are available to enrolled students on a walk-in basis.

APPLYING FOR FINANCIAL AID

The Financial Aid Office will notify the student if further documentation is needed. To receive a financial aid award, the student must be admitted and enrolled in Florida Career College. The financial Aid Office will not award financial aid to any student who has not formally enrolled in the College.

Financial aid is available for those who qualify. Students wishing to apply for financial aid must submit the following forms:

• Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
• A list of schools (beyond high school) previously attended
• Completed loan applications or bring their Federal PIN number (if the student is applying for any of the federal loan programs available at Florida Career College)
• Personal references with a valid address and phone number if applying for a loan

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Students wishing to receive Federal Student Aid must meet the following requirements:

• Enroll in an academic program leading to a degree or diploma
• Certification of high school diploma or equivalent or, at campuses where accepted, pass an ability to benefit (ATB) test
• Demonstrate financial need
• Not be in default on a student loan or owe a refund on a federal grant received at a prior institution
• Maintain satisfactory academic progress, as outlined in the College's catalog
• Be a United States citizen or eligible non-citizen

DETERMINATION OF NEED

The eligibility to receive all types of federal student aid is determined through a standardized formula based upon information the student provides on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The amount of federal financial aid the student will be offered depends upon the student's financial need.

FINANCIAL AID PROGRAMS

All students will receive a copy of The Student Guide for Financial Aid which is published by the U.S. Department of Education. The school is designated as an eligible institution by the U. S. Department of Education for participation in the following programs.

FEDERAL PELL GRANT

The Federal Pell Grant Program is intended to give eligible students financial access to the college of their choice. Federal Pell Grants do not have to be repaid and the Pell Grant eligibility determination is the foundation upon which all other federal student financial aid is built. Federal Pell Grants are awarded only to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor's or professional degree (a professional degree would include a degree in a field such as pharmacy or dentistry). Students are notified of their Federal Pell Grant eligibility through an Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR). This report is electronically transmitted directly to the College and student by the federal processor. The U.S. Department of Education employs a uniform formula to evaluate the information contained on the student aid application and to determine the index of need based on Expected Family Contributions (EFC). In order to receive an award, the ISIR must be reviewed and eligibility confirmed by the Financial Aid Office.

FEDERAL SEOG

A Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is for undergraduates with exceptional financial needs, which means students with the lowest Expected Family Contributions (EFC). This program gives priority to students who receive Federal Pell Grants with the lowest EFC. An FSEOG award does not have to be repaid.

ACADEMIC COMPETITIVENESS GRANT (ACG)

ACG is a need-based grant awarded to U.S. Citizens and Residents enrolled at least half-time who completed a rigorous high school program of study after January 1, 2006. Students can call 1-800-443-3243 to pre-qualify. Grant awards are up to $750 for the first academic year and $1,300 for the second academic year and do not have to be repaid. FEDERAL SUBSIDIZED and UNSUBSIDIZED STUDENT LOANS

Direct and FFEL (Federal Family Education Loan) Subsidized and Unsubsidized Stafford Loans are awarded on the basis of financial need and requires attendance of at least half-time each quarter to be eligible for the loan. Students must begin repaying these loans six months after they graduate, withdraw from school, or drop below half-time enrollment. An entrance and exit interview is required by all Federal Direct and FFEL Stafford Loan borrowers.Title IV Code of Conduct

FEDERAL STUDENT PLUS LOANS

Direct and FFEL PLUS Loans enable parents with good credit history to borrow funds to pay for educational expenses of each child that is determined to be a dependent undergraduate student enrolled at least halftime. Most of the benefits to parent borrowers are identical in the Direct and FFEL programs. The loan will go in to repayment 60 days after the final loan disbursement for the academic year. There is no grace period for these loans but parents can contact their lender to request the payments to be deferred while the student is in school. 

ALTERNATIVE LOANS

Florida Career College has alternative funding sources available to students who qualify. These non-Federal Education loans provide funds to assist students to meet the cost of education once other available sources of aid have been depleted or when annual federal student loan limits have been reached. These private student loans have differing origination fees, interest rates, and repayment options. Contact the Financial Aid Department for more information on your options.

FEDERAL WORK-STUDY PROGRAM (FWS)

The Federal Work-Study Program provides jobs for undergraduate and graduate students attending at least half-time with financial need by allowing them to work and earn money to help pay education expenses. The program encourages community service work and work that is related to the student's course of study. Employment is part-time only and a limited number of FWS jobs are available. An application can be made through the College's Financial Aid Department. Eligibility is based on financial need and the availability of funds.

VETERANS ADMINISTRATION BENEFITS

Most programs offered by the College are approved for one or more of the Veterans Administration (VA) educational assistance benefits programs. Veterans, dependents of veterans and war orphans may be eligible for VA benefits. For further information and assistance in establishing eligibility for these educational benefits please contact your local VA office or the Financial Aid Department on campus.

Veterans receiving VA benefits will be monitored under the same Satisfactory Progress Standards requirements as students who receive other financial aid.

VA CHAPTER 33 YELLOW RIBBON SCHOLARSHIP

Florida Career College will award up to a $1,000 scholarship per academic year for students who qualify at the 100% funding level in the Chapter 33 VA benefit program. Each scholarship award is determined based on the portion of the award year tuition and fees that were not covered by the students' Chapter 33 eligibility amount. In addition to the institution's contribution, the VA will match the college's contribution up to $1,000 per academic year. Please contact the campus Registrar or Financial Aid Director for program details.

FLORIDA STUDENT ASSISTANCE GRANT (FSAG)

FSAG is a need-based program administered by the State. These grants are awarded to students enrolled and attending on a full-time basis in an associate degree program who demonstrate financial need based upon the eligibility criteria of the State grant program. An FSAG grant does not have to be repaid.

FLORIDA BRIGHT FUTURES SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

This is a lottery-funded scholarship to reward Florida high school graduates who demonstrate high academic achievement. Applications and eligibility criteria are available from your high school guidance office or at the floridastudentfinancialaid.org website.

FLORIDA PREPAID PROGRAM

Florida Career College is an approved institution of the Florida Prepaid Program. While the benefits of a Florida Prepaid College contract may be utilized at this institution, the Florida Prepaid College Board does not endorse any particular college or university.

JOSEPH NAGENGAST SCHOLARSHIP

The Joseph Nagengast Scholarship is a need-based merit scholarship awarded to eligible applicants. Awards are calculated based on scheduled credit hours in the academic year and financial need. The maximum scholarship amount is $1,600.00 per academic year. The scholarship is disbursed into equal payments at the beginning of each quarter during the award period. Students meeting the requirements can apply for the scholarship every award year through graduation.

To establish and maintain eligibility students must:

• Be current on financial obligations
• Have completed at least 9 months of his/her program and be in good academic standing with a 2.67 Grade Point Average and above or the student must have successfully completed another full program at the institution.
